!1802: George Carter's estate in Stafford County, comprising more that four thousand acres, included his plantation of a thousand acres and adjacent lands whch he leased out to tenants. In keeping with the Carter tradition of passing their lands to heirs, he bequeathed his entire landed estate to his four children: Sally, Fanny, Mary and Landon and specifically stated in his will that his plantation be "loaned" to his wife in place of a dower, and after her death, the property be divided among his children "share and share alike,"
