Mr Andrews was born in the Huirangi district and was the second son of the late Mr and Mrs G G (Gibb) Andrews. Mr Gibb Andrews was the first manager of the old Waitara Road factory and was one of the first dairy factory managers in New Zealand.

Of later years Mr Andrews took up bowling, being a well known player in Waitara teams. In addition, he continued to take part in the administrative side of different sports. He was a member of the Forresters' Lodge.
Until a short time before his death Mr Andrews was a carpenter in the Waitara freezing works. He married Miss Honor Rowe, daughter of the late Matthew and Honor Rowe, Huirangi by whom he is survived.
