Garth Howard Porter has returned home to his Heavenly Father on June 25, 2016, at home with his family by his side. He was born April 20, 1931 in Fort Thomas, Arizona to father John Howard Porter and mother Mabel Melissa Colvin.

Garth was a loving son, husband, father, and grandfather. He was married to Gwen Harper on October 2, 1957 in the Logan Utah Temple. They were inseparable the whole 58 years they were married.

Garth served a two-year mission from 1951-1953 for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was called to serve in the Texas-Louisiana mission building chapels. During his wonderful life, Garth dedicated 60+ years to the Scouts organization through the church along with various other callings, including 10 years as a dedicated temple worker.

Garth learned the trade of carpentry from his father which led to building church houses not only on his mission but afterwards too as well as into the early years of his marriage. He also used it throughout his life helping anyone who asked him to lend a hand, which Garth always did without hesitation. Garth retired from General Tire after 30 years of employment.

Garth was a very devoted husband and father to his wife and 2 children. He really enjoyed his wife's cooking. One of his all time favorites was her black bottom pie and she loved to make it for him on his birthday. This last year without his lovely wife by his side was particularly hard on him but now we know he is happy being with his Eternal Companion.

Garth is survived by his daughter, Mary Rogers and her husband Steve Rogers; grandchildren, Kimberly Porter, Jonathan Porter, Candace (Buck) Bufton, Krystal (Brent) Taylor, Jessica Porter and Dana Rogers; great-grandchildren, Skyleen, Edie and Colt Bufton, Emerie Rhodes, and Kaleb Taylor; sisters, Karen Preston and Kathy Kinnick.

Garth is preceded in death by his wife, Gwen Porter; son, Robert Porter; parents, John Howard Porter and Mabel Melissa Colvin; grandparents, Gillie Franklin Porter, Cora Lee Crum, Henry Lester Colvin and Effie Melissa Tanner; siblings, Melvyn John Porter and Gleora Cathcart.

Funeral Services for Garth will be held on Thursday, June 30th, at 10:00 am, at the LDS church house located at 49 East Centennial Blvd., Saratoga Springs, Utah, where a Viewing will be held prior from 9:00 to 9:45 am. He will be laid to rest following the services at American Fork City Cemetery, 26 West 600 North, American Fork, Utah.
