Fredericka's original name may have been Maria Friederike, as suggested by the fact that she used the name Mary in the 1870 census[5], and her death certificate[4] and gravestone[6] both use the name Friederike. It was common in Germany to give children 2 names, and it was often the second name that the person normally used.

Fredeicka and Carl (Charles) Polkow immigrated sometime between 1862 and 1866. The 1900 census lists their immigration date as 1862, four years before Carl and Fredericka were married. This does not agree with other records which have an immigration date closer to the date of their marriage.

Carl and Fredericka lost their youngest daughter Minnie to typhoid fever in 1893. She was 18.

She is listed as Mary. She likely had 2 given names, as was common in Germany - possibly Maria Friederike. All later records use the name Fredericka (or some variation of that).
