"Ellsworth American" Dec. 7, 1910, Frederick B. Googins, for over a half a century in the livery and hotel business at Bucksport, and widely known to the traveling public, died Friday, December 2, in his 72 year. Although in poor health for some time, his death was unexpected.

He was born in Belmont, Me. April 2, 1839, and spent his early days in Lincolnville. When a young man he came to Bucksport and went to work for Daniel Robinson, keeper of the famous old Robinson House. He was given the Bucksport and Castine stage route to drive, and for seven years he never missed a trip, although facing some terrible storms and the worst of roads. He drove on other lines, and was one of the last surviving drivers of the old mail coach days.

He later acquired the livery business connected with the Robinson House, and has conducted in ever since. He was there through the long administration of the late James F. Moses, who was succeeded by Pearl H. Wardwell, meanwhile forming a partnership with his son, H. Rufus Googins, under the firm name of F.B. Googins & Son. About three years ago the firm bought the entire hotel property of the Moses Estate, and the famous old tavern has since been conducted by H.R. Googins, another son, Warren, taking charge of the stable and livery.

Almost everybody who has ever been at Bucksport knows "Fred" Googins. For years he was at every boat and train and always had a cheerful word for everybody. He was kind hearted and charitable, and never turned a deaf ear to anyone in real distress. In his death, Bucksport loses one of its best citizens.

Besides his wife and the two sons who were associated with him in business here, he is survived by another son-F. Angus Googins, of New York, and a daughter Mrs. Thomas Swazey of Bucksport. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Emma Parker of New York, and two brothers, George of Bucksport, and William of New York. Fred B. Googins was a member of Knowlton Lodge N.E.O.P. and Bucksport Lodge A.O.U.W.
