    Union Civil War Veteran. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and was the son of James and Charlotte Calhoun. He volunteered to serve in the Union Army during the Civil War and enlisted on May 12, 1864 with the 137th Ohio National Guard Infantry. Calhoun was mustered in as a Private in Company B until he mustered out on August 19th, 1864 at Camp Dennison near Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1875 on March 10th he became a 2nd Lieutenant with the 14th U.S. Infantry (Regular Army) and served at Fort Douglas in Utah in 1880. Calhoun became a 1st Lieutenant on December 3, 1886 and remained in the service until he retired in 1890. He died in Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts. He was removed from Natick, Massachusetts to Spring Grove on April 16, 1904. He married Emma Reed, niece of General George A. Custer. He was the younger brother of Lt. James Calhoun of the 7th United States Cavalry.
