Fred C Christopher Source: Birth: Feb. 27, 1889

Death: Sep. 10, 1952

According to the 1900 United States Federal Census, the siblings match the children of Mary Lou Bullard Christopher and James Dubois Christopher. Unfortunately, the 1900 United States Federal Census is not clear about the father of Fred Calhoun Christopher because the mother is listed as MA for some reason and James Dubois had died due to severe burns caused by an accident earlier in the year.

James Dubois Christopher's mother's Mathews line out of Abbeville, SC was Calhoun on the maternal side, hence his middle name. Here is a bio for James Dubois written by one of my aunts. It's lengthy but mentioned Fred:

James Dubois Christopher was the son of George A. Christopher and Jane Matthews Christopher of Abbeville, South Carolina. He was born in 1846 in Abbeville, South Carolina and came to Texas shortly after the end of the Civil War. He served with Byrd's Battalion in the Civil War. He and his family first settled in Texas near Jonesboro, Texas. He married Mary Rhoda Bullard and they came to Houston County in 1893 and purchased a farm on Hickory Creek on the old Bates Ferry Road. He had seven children, George E., Walter, Claude, Percy Scott, Fred C., Melville and Hattie. He had a gin and saw mill in what is now the Daniel Belleview Community. He also had a blacksmith shop on Goliad Street in Crockett near the present Post Office Building. He had an accident while working at his gin and died from injuries sustained in this accident in 1900.

The children of George continued to own a portion of the original farm until the 1970s. Mary later moved to Teague and died in 1933.

He was a farmer, general contractor and for many years had teams & wagons that delivered freight for Missouri Pacific RR in Crockett. He helped to build many of the early road beds in Houston Country with mules and fresnos. He also helped design and build the first golf course at Spring Creek Country Club near Crockett. His hobby was fox hunting and listening to the hounds. He died in 1964 and Ida died in 1967.
