1. The ancestry of Francisco is not known. It is possible that his father was one of the 10 known sons of Capitán a guerra José de Padilla (estimated birth date 1653). José appears in the muster at Senecú in 1692-93, and may have taken his family to Santa Fé. José states in the muster that he came to New Mexico about 1673. In the census, José is described as "alcalde mayor" of Senecú (district administrator with extensive judicial and political authority, appointed by the governor of New Mexico). From the early 1700's, the Padilla surname appears in El Paso and Santa Fe, as well as in other locations up and down the river.

2. The birth order of the children is not known.

Page numbers listed for this source are the page numbers of my printouts of Family Group Sheets from the GNMPD; the GNMPD does not display Individual Numbers or page numbers. The printouts contain the names of many additional siblings which have not yet been added to the Banta Family File accessed by the Reunion software program. Because there are many contributors to the GNMPD, there are variant spellings of some names. Where it seemed reasonable to do so, I have used a consistent form of the family name across generations, even if it differs slightly from that found in the database. Since the GNMPD is constantly being updated it needs to be reviewed periodically. (Last reviewed 6/2006.)).
