Francis Newborn was baptised at Barnack in Northamptonshire on 29th January 1702/3, the eldest child of a couple named Edward Newborn and his wife Ann Algate, who had married fifteen months earlier at Barnack. When Francis was 21 months old his parents had a second child, Edward, who died when only a few days old. Less than five months later, Francis also died, aged 3, being buried at Barnack on 1st March 1705/6, leaving his parents temporarily childless again. They would later go on to have another son called Francis in 1713.
