Francis D. "Mac" McIntosh Our family is sad to announce the passing of Francis D. "Mac" McIntosh on April 9, 2013. He was born on June 16, 1918 in Manistique, Michigan. He was married for over 50 years to Irene (Rene) McIntosh who predeceased him in 1994. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Helen Sorenson McIntosh; daughter, Paula McPheeters (Merle); daughter, Claudia McIntosh and two beautiful and talented granddaughters, Brittany and Chelsea McPheeters. Mac was a WWII veteran who left his studies at Michigan State and enlisted with the Army Air Corps immediately after hearing of the bombing of Pearl Harbor and served until April of 1946 when he was honorably discharged with the rank of captain. He was a biology teacher and gymnastics coach who spent much of his adult life in Montana before he and Rene took their girls on an adventure, traveling through Canada, the western United States, and Mexico before settling in Santa Fe, NM and ultimately Tucson. He enjoyed tennis, ballroom dancing, and participating in Great Decisions groups. He was also a student of the English language and was intrigued by its derivations and nuances. He was a poet and essayist throughout his life and particularly enjoyed the writings of Longfellow. Mac believed in Tolstoy's comment that to understand all is to forgive all, making him a compassionate person of great patience and acceptance. He had an active sense of humor and greatly enjoyed interacting with his family, friends, and new acquaintances. Mac led a life of quiet service and was a role model for those who knew him. He was a kind and gentle patriarch who will be greatly missed. Memorial donations may be sent to the Casa Maria Soup Kitchen at 401 E. 26th St., Tucson, AZ 85713.
