Francis Linsley was born on 4th December 1877 at Southwark in London, son of Sophia Linsley, formerly Blake, and her husband Charles Linsley, a commercial traveller. He appears to have been generally known as Frank. The 1881 census finds him living with his parents and a brother at 120 York Road in nearby Lambeth.
By 1891 Frank had moved out to Burwell in Cambridgeshire, where he lived with a family called Fordham and worked as a general labourer.
Some of the Fordhams from Burwell moved to Luton in Bedfordshire, and Frank appears to have gone with them, appearing in the 1901 census living at 109 Boyle Street in the town and working as an apprentice bricklayer.
On 10th September 1904, aged 26, he married Agnes Kempson at St Paul's Church in Luton. They remained in Luton, staying close to Agnes's family in the southern suburbs of the town. From at least 1908 to 1915 they lived at 162 New Town Street. The 1911 census describes Frank as a foundry labourer. Although they had been married for six years at that point, they reported that they had not had any children. It appears that they did have one daughter in 1913 (who in turn appears to have had one daughter herself, in 1936).
From at least 1918 the family lived at 39 Cambridge Street, which had previously been Agnes' parents' house. At the outbreak of the Second World Ward, Frank was described as a bricklayer.
Frank died in 1940, aged 62. Agnes outlived him by 35 years.
