  4. 4.0 4.1 The older source Locke only places the birth in Athol, but the new source Seward (which appears to be almost entirely a copy of the older source) places both birth and death in Athol. Neither event is recorded in Athol. The Vermont record is only based on a gravestone, and burial in Vermont doesn't guarantee death there, and says much less about the location of the birth. However, looking at the family history, they moved to Putney between 1812 and 1815 and the parents died there. So, since no record of Francis is found at Athol, it seems most likely that everything happened in Putney, and the mention of Athol probably started out as an editing error by Locke, and was faithfully copied and expanded upon by Seward.
