From "they came to Mara...", p. 139 "Francis Cavanaugh (also Cavana) was a native of Ireland; he married Lucinda Jones, dau. of James and Margaret Jones, of Scarborough Township...Francis Cavana was involved in various land transactions in Scarborough. Francis made his first purchase of land in Brock Township by acquiring the North 1/2 of Lot 16 Concession 8 from John Plank of Uxbridge on 20 March, 1840. Precisely when the Cavanaugh family moved to Brock Township was not determined, but Francis and his family appeared in the 1861 census of Brock. By 1871, Mary was widowed and still living in Brock. Some children of Francis and Mary Lucinda settled in Mara. Their daughter, Sarah, married Patrick Malone; Mary married John Coyle, and Patrick married Hannah McLean; at various times they all lived in Mara..." (research submitted by Elaine McLean).
