Frank Carpenter was active in politics and community affairs. He served as a Councillor for Saltfleet Township from 1872 to 1874, and as Reeve from 1874 to 1883. From 1872 to 1897 he served as a MajorS7 in the 77th Wentworth Battalion, Volunteer Militia. He was defeated as the candidate for South Wentworth, Ontario in the 1878 Federal election. Frank served as a Conservative Member of Parliament as the representative for South Wentworth, Ontario from Feb 22, 1887 to June 23, 1896.

In "civilian life" he was a farmer.
