Floyd Assink, age 89 of Lynden, was taken to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Nov14, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham.
He was the son of Gerrit and Marie (DeHoog) Assink and was born on July 17, 1918. He attended Lynden schools and on March 4, 1942 married Margaret Haveman in Lynden. Together they raised their family and operated a dairy farm on the Assink Road north of Lynden.
Floyd was a member of the Second Christian Reformed Church in Lynden where he served as an Elder and Deacon and also served on the Lynden Christian School Board. He enjoyed gardening and volunteering at the Lynden Christian School’s paper bailing program.
Besides his parents, Floyd was preceded by his brothers Harry, Bert, Ben, Marion, Reuben and Gerald Assink and is survived at home by his wife Margaret and their children Mavis (Gary) Zondervan of Chino, CA., Donna (Jack) Youells of Sun City West, AZ., Diane (Jim) Shelton and Dale (Grace) Assink of Lynden; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Dorothy & Jean Assink of Lynden and Marge Assink of Yakima and numerous other relatives.
Burial will be on Monday, Nov. 19, at 2:15 p.m. in Monumenta Cemetery in Lynden followed by funeral services at 3:00 p.m. in the Second Christian Reformed Church, 8th & Front Sts., Lynden.
