    [citing the Franklinton "New Era" issue of 27 May 1899] "Last Saturday evening at about 5 o'clock, Fleet Brumfield, son of W. J. Brumfield, while riding on a handcar at Kentwood, fell from the car and was run over by it. He was instantly killed. He was buried at a graveyard about 5 miles from town on the following Monday."
