Fanny was the third child of seven born to James M Wallace and Elizabeth Betsey Belknap Wallace.

Her siblings were, Lydia A, Robert H, Caroline A, John J, Julia E and Ellen A.

When Fanny was 19, she married William Bair, who was 26, in 1841. The couple was never blessed with any children of their own. They were however, prominent figures in the development of Schoolcraft, Michigan and their story is documented in the Michigan historical records.
