"101—Hon. Ezra Selden (Captain Samuel28), bapt. November 5, 1727, Lyme, Conn., died December 20, 1814, aged 87 years. His father, Captain Samuel Selden, bought property in North Lyme (now Hamburg) and with his family removed to a house he either bought or built, and at his death he left this property to his son Ezra Selden. His mother after the death of her second husband, Noadiah Brainerd, lived with him until her death, being then almost 100 years old. Ezra Selden was a man of repute and standing in the community; was appointed lieutenant in the 3d company of foot in the town of Lyme in 1755; in 1765 he applied for dismission from this office which was granted; was justice of the peace, deputy to the General Assembly for many years, and State Auditor, 1773. Ezra Selden was married three times, (1) May 6, 1751, Elizabeth, daughter of Dr. Theophilus Rogers, a noted physician of Norwich, Conn., who in 1774 was on the standing committee of Correspondence, and died in 1801, aged 70 years. Elizabeth Rogers Selden was born April 17, 1729, and died June 21, 1767, aged 38 years. Ezra married (2) December 29, 1768, Ame, daughter of Daniel and Ruhama (Turner) Ely of Lyme, she was born January 29, 1740, and died February 26, 1776, aged 35 years; married (3) April 13, 1780, Hannah Merriam, widow of the Rev. Burrage Merriam of Wethersfield, Conn.; she died January 8 or 9, 1816, aged 72 years. The will of Ezra Selden dated New London County, January 7, 1805, 'in the 77th year', mentions wife Hannah, who is to have one-fourth of my now dwelling house. The inventory taken January 25 1815, shows he had 355 acres of land in Connecticut, and 75 acres of land in the township of Marlow, state of New Hampshire; he had thirteen children but only five grew to maturity."
