    "It was during these perilous times that Ezekiel Wallingford was killed by the Indians near his 78-acre farm on West Hill. That evening of August 17, 1746, in the west fort, Wallingford heard sounds like bears in his nearby cornfield, and ventured out to drive them away. The noise had been made by the Indians to lure him to sure death. ...
