Evelyn, 90, Lima, died at 1:57 p.m., at Lost Creek Care Center.
She was the daughter of Stephen and Pearl (Siney) Crusie. On Dec 7, 1945, she married Joseph H. Andrews, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are a son, Crusie (Karen), Lima; a sister-in-law, Marge Cole; six grandchildren: Courtney (James) Turner, Ben (Stephanie) Andrews, and Josh Andrews, all Waynesfield, Bryan (Jean) Andrews, IL, Ryan (Megan) Andrews, Lima and Jenna (Joseph) St. John, Columbus; four step grandchildren: Jackie O'Kief, Mike (Jennifer) McDermott, both Lima, Cory (Lisa) Cales, Wapakoneta, and Christopher Cales, stationed in North Carolina with the U.S. Marine Corp; and seven great-grandchildren and eighteen step great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, Stephen; two brothers, James and Clyde; a niece Martha Andrews and a step grandson, Matthew Cales.
She was a 1940 graduate of Blume High School.
In 1965, at the age of 43 she suffered a stroke due to a ruptured cerebral aneurysm. While she survived the surgery, she was unable to speak or use her right side. She and her husband engaged in farming. During her recovery, she insisted on helping. Family would put her on the 1937 John Deere tractor, engage the throttle and clutch and she would disc the fields. When finished someone would get on the tractor to stop it and help her off. With therapy and intense determination to overcome her disabilities, she would learn to speak and walk again. However, for the rest of her life, she had no feeling or sense of position of her right side. She refused to give in to her disabilities. She sought in employment at Indian Lake Manor in housekeeping because she thought it would be good therapy for her. She remained employed there for ten years. She learned to use her left hand and amazingly kept a diary for over 50 years.
Following a fractured hip, she relied on a walker to ambulate. Simple tasks for some, such as bathing or getting dressed, were very challenging and time-consuming for her. She developed her own way of doing things. For the past ten years she lived on her own in Lima. She refused to give in to any outside assistance, other than the help from family and neighbors. She insisted on doing as much for herself as possible. She was extremely organized, kept a calendar of events, and never forgot to send a card on a birthday or anniversary. Family and friends will miss her Miracle Whip Cake, rice pudding and her banana pudding.
For many years, she was involved with the minstrel shows that her late husband co-directed and presented in New Hampshire, Ohio.
She was a member of the New Hampshire United Methodist Church.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
