DEATH: At home, Oct. 28th, of Diptheria, Evaline Fowls, only child of Phillip and Catharine Fowls, in the ninth year of her age.
Her illness was protracted and painful, but her end was peace. Her cheerfulness, her gently winning way won all hearts. The large and tearful assembly who followed all that was mortal of her to the grave, best attest the love all bore her.
OUR IDOL "Part the hair lightly, Bridle the breath, Our little earth angel Is taking with death. Gently he woos her, She wishes to stay His arms are about her-- He bears her away.
Music comes floating, Down from the dome; Angels are chanting, The sweet welcome home, Come stricken weeper! Come to the bed. Gaze on the sleeper-- Our Eva is dead!
Smooth out the ringlets, Close the black eye-- No wonder such beauty Was claimed in the sky; Cross the hands gently O'er the white breast, So like a wild Spirit Strayed from the blest; Bear her out softly, This Idol of ours, Let her grave slumber Be 'mid the Sweet Flowers.'
