  5.   A relatively recent (1986) article in NEHGR, p. 140:210, claims John's widow Esther m. (2) Newbury 18 Jun 1741 Joshua Sawyer Jr. The marriage record names "Mrs. Esther Sawyer" but at this point in time, Mrs. did not necessarily mean a married woman, i.e., a widow. In fact, Joshua Sawyer Jr. was b. 1711, and with his wife Esther had six children 1744 through 1760. So his wife was probably not a widowed woman born in 1689, and over 70 at the time of the birth of their last child. Thus Mary Lovering Holman's identification of Esther as the widow of John Rogers who d. 1747 seems more reasonable.
