Obituary of Ester Brolliar Hayes

On Wednesday evening, June 3rd, 1896, there passed from earth in the person of Mrs. J. W. Hayes of Hayesville one of the oldest and most highly respected residents in this county.
She, having resided in this county and on the same farm since 1844. The deceased, whose maiden name was Esther Bralliar was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, September 17, 1817, hence at the time of her death had reached the advanced age of 78 years 8 months and 16 days. In 1829, she removed with her parents to Ohio. Here she was married to Andy Wertz and with him moved to Illinois in 1842 and from thence to Iowa in 1844. In 1848 she was left a widow and so remained until 1850, March 31, when she was united in marriage to J.W. Hayes, who survived her. She was the mother of ten children, three daughters and two sons having come to bless each union. Of these, four sons and four daughters remained behind in life, one daughter from each marriage having preceded the mother into the bright beyond.
The funeral service occured from the Hayesville ME Church on Friday afternoon, June 5th. Services were conducted by pastor Rev. C. Wilson assisted by the Hayesville choir. The body was entered in the Pennington Cemetery.
