Ernest Dowell was a prominent farmer of the Hill Grove until he retired and moved to Garrett, Meade County, Kentucky in 1950. Ernest was a former vice-president of the Planter's Cooperative Insurance Company of Meade and Breckinridge Counties. Ernest was also a deacon at the Hill Grove Baptist Church for more than 40 years. Ernest took an active part in many community affairs.
