    Final rites for Mrs. Era Stanford Abernethy of Louisville, wife of H.B. Abernethy,
    retired Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad conductor, were held at 4 o'clock Friday
    afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Louisville with Rev. Vernon May, pastor,
    officiating. Burial was in Louisville Memorial Park with Harris Funeral Home
    in charge.

    Mrs. Abernethy, who was 75, died Thursday afternoon at Community Hospital, where she had been a patient one day. She had been an invalid with arthritis for 18 years.

    A daughter of the late Frank Stanford and the late Mrs. Mollie Stanford, she
    was born in Okolona. She had lived in Louisville most of her life. Prior to
    her illness she was active in the First Baptist Church and Woman's Missionary
    Society. She also was a member of the GM&O Club, a group made up of wives of
    employees of the Gulf Mobile and Ohio Railroad.

    She leaves a son, H.B. Abernethy, Jr. of Huntsville, Alabama; a daughter, Mrs J.R.
    Eure of Louisville; two sisters, Mrs. Molly Hubbard of Memphis and Mrs. Elma Collins
    of Detroit, Michigan, and five grandchildren.

    Those from here who went to Louisville for the services were Mr. and Mrs. Charles McGehee, Mr. and Mrs. Tilden Dendy and Mr. and Mrs. Banks McDowell, Mrs Bruce Mitchell and Mrs W.T. Jaggers. They were accompanied by Mrs. Dennis Carlisle of Starkville.
