Enoch Lawrence, son of John and Elizabeth (?Kettleborough?) Lawrence. He was born 5 Mar 1648/9, Watertown, MA. He died 28 Sep 1744, Groton, MA, aged about 95 years. Enoch Lawrence was a soldier in Capt. Nicholas Paige's company during King Philip's War, for which he credited for £2 on 3 Sep 1675.
"Enos" Lawrence was a soldier in King Philip's War from Watertown, for which he credited 8s. 9d. on 24 Aug 1676. Enoch Lawrence was one of the garrison in the West Regiment for Middlesex, for Groton, on 17 Mar 1691/2. Enoch Lawrence was wounded in a fight with the Indians 27 Jul 1694, which almost wholly prevented him from manual labor.

  6. Groton VRs only contains one death record for Enoch Lawrence, p. 240: LAWRENCE, "Enosh, Sept. 25 [bet. 1725 and 1729], a. abt. 74 y." Presumably, the brackets reflect that this was recorded without an explicit year, but between records dated 1725 and 1729. A death in 1725, age 74, would imply a birth about 1651. There does not appear to be any other Enoch Lawrence that fits such an age at death. Aligned against this, all we appear to have is Savage's assertion that he died 1744. Many sources repeat this, but none that show any signs that they did more than copy Savage (WRG cites Savage, Bond and Pierce, for example). Probably Savage took this from Butler, where it is added as a footnote to the family register, and it probably is a different interpretation, than the Groton VRs give, but reflecting the same underlying handwritten record. Butler's interpretation would imply two errors in the VR: its placement in the books being off by about 20 years, and the age likewise. Find A Grave says 1725 but has no image attached, so adds nothing. The Index of Middlesex Probate does not have a listing for Enoch Lawrence. He does show up on a tax list for Groton in 1701, and is mentioned in a letter in 1718, neither of which help. An open question, but the death probably occurred around 1725 unless further evidence can be found that Enoch lived past that date.
