ENGEL is a word in German, which means "Angel" in English. Sometimes ENGEL is used as a surname.

Could Engel Strueve be related to Pastor Ludwig STUEVE, of St. Walburgis Evangelical Lutheran Church, of Venne? Pastor Stueve was the original compiler (in 1874) of the 637 families and indvividuals who migrated to the USA from Venne. In 1980 the church secretary rewrote the list. This was the basis of Udo Thoerner's research project, which ultimately became a genealogical and biographical data collection, of over 2,000 former residents of the village.

Unfortunately, no other Strueve surnames can be found in Udo's book. That could be because the surname might have died out before the migrations began in circa 1830.
