Emma was 12 when the school photo was taken. Both her parents were born in Germany, emigrating in 1873. Emma was the 10th child of at least 11 children. In 1900 her father was a laborer in the car shops, and in 1910 he was a laborer in stone work.

Not quite 3 years after the photo was taken, at the age of 15, Emma married Louis Bishop who was 20 at the time. Within a year or so their first child was born (possibly the reason for the marriage?). They had a total of 4 children, all of whom may still be living.

Louis was a laborer in the sugar refining industry in 1910, a steamfitter for the George M. Clark Co. in Harvey in 1918, an electrician in a stove factory in 1920, and a "maintainer" at a motor company in 1930. He died in 1942 in Riverdale at the age of 56. Emma lived until 1976, dying in Riverdale a month before her 85th birthday.
