Downing, Main street, Sumneytown, died Friday morning at her home after a long illness. She was 85.Born in Sumneytown, she was a lifelong resident of the Upper Perkiomen Valley, a daughter of the late Lee R. and Sophia Schwager Clayborne. She was a member of Kingdom Hall, Jehovah's Witnesses, in Pennsburg.She is survived by seven children, Newton Downing of Plainsfield, N.J.; Gordon Downing of Norristown; Mrs. Celestine Jett at home; Reginald Downing of Sumneytown; Richard R. Downing of Sumneytown; Cedric Downing of Roselle, N.J.; and Mrs. Helen Wood of Ambler. Also, three sisters, Mrs. Anne Bailey of Ambler; Hannah, wife of Edward Webster, Norristown; Mrs. Martha Baptiste of Norristown; 30 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.Memorial services will be held at Kingdom Hall, Jehovah's Witnesses, in Pennsburg. Funeral arrangements were by the Mann Funeral Home, East Greenville.
