Isle of Thanet Gazette 10th May 1940 Cleveland, on May 7th 1940 at The Cottage, Cornwall Gardens, Cliftonville, Ida Beatrice Cleveland, wife of George of the St George's Hotel, Margate, sadly missed by daddy and the boys. Isle of Thanet Gazette 10th May 1940 GENIAL HOSTESS - Death of Mrs George CLEVELAND The death on Tuesday at the age of fifty four years of Mrs Ida Beatrice CLEVELAND, wife of Mr George CLEVELAND, robs St George's Hotel, Cliftonville of one of its most genial and loveable characters, and regular visitors to the hotel will miss her pleasing personality. The daughter of Mr Thomas CAREY of Ealing, Mrs CLEVELAND came to Margate twenty eight years ago when she married Mr George CLEVELAND and she has always taken an active part in the management of the hotel. Guests were not merely guests to her, they were friends. In the days before the last war Mrs CLEVELAND was a prominent member of the old Thanet Operatic Society. She was later one of the Cleveland Concert Party, and was instrumental in the raising of over £4,000 for local charities as the result of Sunday evening concerts at the hotel. During the last war she entertained soldiers at concerts at the Richborough mystery camp. Another role she played in the Great War was controlling the rationing of food at the Ritz Hotel London. She took a great interest in Margate and District General Hospital and was a member of the management committee, while she was actively associated with the Inner Wheel of Margate and was one of their most popular presidents when she occupied that position in 1937-8. In 1936, when vice president, she attended a Rotary Convention at Atlantic City USA, as Margate's representative. Mrs CLEVELAND leaves a widower and two sons. The funeral takes place at Margate Cemetery at Twelve o'clock this (Friday) morning. 23rd August 1940 East Kent Advertiser and Echo Re: Ida Beatrice Cleveland Pursuant to the Trustee Act 1925 Notice is hereby given that all persons having any claims against the Estate of Ida Beatrice Cleveland of 'The Cottage', Cornwall Gardens, Cliftonville Margate, Kent, who died on the 7th May 1940 are hereby required to send particulars thereof in writing to the Westminster Bank Limited, Trustee Department, Chief Office at Priory Mansions, Bath Road, Bournemouth, Hants, the executor (jointly with George Harlow Cleveland) of the Will of the said Ida Beatrice Cleveland or to the undersigned the Solicitor to the Executors on or before the 24th day of October 1940 after which date the Executors will proceed to distribute the said Estate, having regard only to the claims then notified.
