    Emery (Emory) Ford Porter, the son of William Porter and his wife Adaline Harriet White, was b. in New London Twp. in the first frame home built by his grandfather Benjamin Ford White on Butler Road on 23 Mar. 1851; and d. at his residence at 174 West Main St., New London on 4 Oct. 1911. He was bur. in Grove St. Cem. with his wife.

    He mar. in New London, by Rev. George A Weber, Minister of the Gospel on 12 Oct. 1876 to Cora Eva (called Eva) Foote the dau. of Ira Foote and his wife Catharine C. Johnson. Eva was b. in Fitchville Twp. 30 Jan. 1860; and d. at the home of her son Willard Foote Porter in Fitchville Twp., on 12 Oct. 1930.

    Emery was ten years old when his father d. in 1861. His mother remarried in 1863 but Emery never got along well with his stepfather so sometime about 1867 or earlier he went to Beloit, Wisc. and lived with his grandfather Philo Thos. Porter. (p. 274)

    The old church records reveal that both he [Emery] and his brother Frank were baptized in Buck Creek south of New London on February 15, 1874, along with a number of other people.
