Burlington Clipper Saturday, August 25, 1900 Mrs. Emeline Putnam, who passed away at her home here, Monday, Aug. 13, after a lingering illness of nervous prostration and paralysis, was a daughter of John and Deborah (Buker) Holmes and granddaughter of Rev. John Holmes, the first Baptist minister in the town of Cambridge. The funeral was largely attended from the house on Wednesday, Aug. 15, under the charge of B. G. MaCoy (sic). Rev. Edwin Wheelock officiating, as he did 25 years ago that day in the same house at the funeral of her mother, Mrs. Holmes. The remains were taken to Underhill for burial. The bearers were her two nephews, John and Frank Butler, Orlando Holmes and Zenas Buker. H. M. Cornell and his daughter, Marion, Ira Powell and Mrs. Mrs. Thomas of Jeffersonville sang "Rock of Ages" and "Sweet Home." Mrs. Putnam was 78 years of age Jan. 8, 1900. She leaves to mourn her loss two sons, Emerson and Fred of this place and one daughter, Mrs. Picknell, of California, who has been with her and cared for her many wants for the past 14 months. Mrs. Picknell has crossed the continent eight times in the last 20 years to look after the comforts of her mother because she did not want to leave to old home. ... Those from out of town to attend the funeral were Mrs. Henry Thomas of Morrisville, Calvin Putnam of Underhill and his granddaughter, Ethel Green of St. Albans, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Buker and daughter, Mrs. Hill of Waterville, Mrs. F. S. Morgan of Milton and Mrs. Laura Cunity of Wisconsin.
