Enlisted 12 May 1864 F Co. 184th Inf Regt PA About one-fourth of Company F of this regiment was recruited in Schuykill Co. It was organized In May of 1864; at once it joined the Army of the Potomac and the next day was in the battle of Tolopotomy Creek. Immediately following this it was in the battle of Cold Harbor.Then it engaged in several successive skirmishes against the enemy's works. At Tolopotmy they lost in killed wounded and captured about 350out of the 500 men in the regiment. The remnant of the regiment was engaged at Deep Bottom and lost twenty seven killed and wounded of the ninetyseven men that were in the battle. It later received three new companies and after it was reinforced they engaged the enemy several more times. Sixty seven members of this regiment died at Andersonville,Salisbury and Florence prisons. Served Pennsylvania Enlisted F Co. 184th Inf Reg. PA died at Annapolis,MD on 20 March 1865 Source: History of Pennsylvania Volunteers,1861-1865 The 1850 census for Spruce wards of Reading PA has an Emanuel Riffert aged 21 Living with his wife Elizabeth age 20 and a child Andrew aged 1.His occupation is listed as a Machinist. They are living with and older couple John Riffert aged 63 and wife Elizabeth age 61. Are they his parents or maybe Grandparents? If this is the same Emanuel Riffert that is Samuel's father than apparently he was married twice., his first wife probably having died before he married Susan Pinkerton. References
