  3.   Windham, Connecticut, United States. 1900 U.S. Census Population Schedule
    line 26.
  4. There is an Elvira J. Salisbury living in Killingly, CT, in census (line 50). Her parents' birthplaces, Connecticut and Massachusetts, match up similar information found in Elvira Putnam's 1900 census. She appears to be the widow of Augustus Salisbury who died in Putnam, CT, earlier in 1880 (gravestone). Their marriage occurred in Grafton, MA, in 1861 (record 7) and the marriage record identifies her as Alvira J. Simmons, d/o Anson & Caroline Simmons, b. Winsted, CT, about 1826. Despite retaining her maiden name, it indicates this is her 2nd marriage, so the first may have ended in divorce? The marriage of Alvira J. Simmons to George Gay in 1849 in Barbour's Killingly records appears a likely candidate. More work is needed to make this all conclusive.
