AUBURN- Elsie Roberta Atwood, 84, Auburn, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at Homestead of Auburn. She was born April 12, 1925, at Topeka, the daughter of David Cecil "Jack" Gifford and Mildred Provost Gifford.
She attended Twinville rural grade school and Auburn High School. She was a member of Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene, where she was active as pianist, Sunday school teacher, and missions work.
She served on the Shawnee County Election Commission, and the Shawnee County Farm Bureau as Women's Chairman.
She married Loyal Joseph Atwood, July 22, 1945, at the home of her parents, west of Auburn. They were married 61 years. He died September 27, 2006.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Childers, who died in 1988, one brother and one sister.
Survivors include her children, Elsie Dossett (Johnnie) McPherson, KS, Lawrence Atwood (Sherry) Auburn, KS, Betty Colbert (Richard) Lawrence, KS, and John Atwood (Leatrice) Auburn, KS; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, a niece and four nephews.
A funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene.
Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery, Auburn, Kansas.
