ELNATHAN CHATFIELD (1733-1778): Elnathan lived just east of what is now the Seymour, CT line, on the north side of Bladens Brook. This was within the limits of Milford until Jan 1784, when the town of Woodbridge was incorporated. When the town of Bethany was incorporated in 1832, and Bladens Brook was made a part of the boundary, the site of the house was in Bethany, CT. The house was a few rods north of the house afterward occupied by Oliver Stoddard Chatfield and later owned by his eldest dau. Mrs. Friend Cook Ford, which is crossed by the Seymour and Woodbridge town line. Mary Jane (Chatfield) Ford, wife of Friend Cook Ford, was the great-granddaughter of Elnathan.
Administration on the estate of Elnathan Chatfield of Milford was granted in Aug 1778 to Raymond Sanford, in the right of his wife, Rebecca, dau. of the deceased. Mention is made of four children, unnamed; Hannah Chatfield was appointed guardian to the dau. Sarah.[huldawoodard.ged]
