Elmer Newton Coulter, 94, died at 12:29 a.m. Sunday, December 30, 2012, in Bastrop, Louisiana.
Elmer lived in Bastrop since 2008, moving there from Sulphur. He was a charter member of the Maplewood Church of Christ, where he attended for 61 years and served as an elder for 25 years. Elmer was a proud veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of the University of Colorado in Boulder and retired from Cities Service Refinery after 32 years as a corrosion engineer. He was a past president of NACE. He truly loved children.
Survivors include his son Walter Floyd Coulter of Fairbanks, Alaska; daughters, Elnice Ann Davis and husband Karl of Bastrop, Rilla Kathleen Van Ness and fiancé Barry Butler of Shreveport, and Ila Faye Berry and husband Douglas of Sulphur; sister Rosie Taylor of Harlingen, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Myrtle Bernice Coulter and son Gerald Lynn Coulter.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the physicians and staff of Morehouse General Hospital for their compassion and support.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 3, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Craig Peters will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. Thursday until time of service, all at the funeral home.
