    This memorial asserts that "Ely" was her maiden name. One Samuel Smith of New London, not this Samuel Smith, married an Elizabeth, probably Ely, in the late 1690s (see the Nehemiah Smith genealogy, pp. 72-73), but those two individuals have nothing to do with this Smith family.
