Elizabeth's maiden name and origins have yet to be established. The age given when she died implies that she was born around 1777. Her first sighting is in 1803, by which time she was already married to an agricultural labourer called William Hobbs. They had seven children baptised between 1803 and 1821, all at Flamstead in Hertfordshire apart from one who was baptised in 1807 at Little Gaddesden. At least two of their children died young.

Elizabeth died in 1834, being buried at Flamstead on 31st January 1834. She was said to be 56 years old. William survived her by 25 years.
