14 Sep 1899, p 2 - Mrs. Elizabeth Shank died at the home of her son-in-law, Wm. Carpenter, last Monday night. She was in failing health for several years, but no one thought the end was near. She returned last Friday from a visit to her daughter, Mrs. Crull, east of here a few miles, and at once took worse. Her affliction was asthma, but paralysis ended her life. She was born in Lancaster county, Pa., 72 years ago last May. Here in early life she married James Shank, with whom she lived happily until his death some years since. They came to Indiana with their family a number of years ago, and were much respected by many friends. Mrs. Shank was a member of the Evangelical church, and lived a pure christian life. She was a kind mother, an excellent neighbor and possessed many amiable traits that brought her innumerable friends. Her surviving children are Lorenzo Shank, of Richmond ; DeWitt Shack [sic], of Muncie ; Mrs. Michael Crull, Mrs. Samuel Eckert, Mrs. Richard Morgan and Mrs. William Carpenter, of this vicinity. They have the sympathy of many friends in their bereavement. The funeral will take place from the Evangelical church to-day at 10 a.m., conducted by Rev. Lacey. Interment in the family lot in the Lutheran cemetery.
