"… Elizabeth _____, apparently stepdaughter of William Phillips. She died at Taunton on 30 July 1678. … Both Savage and Pope stated that Elizabeth, first wife of James Walker, was daughter of William Phillips [Savage 3:416, 4:393; Pope 358]. However, in his will of 16 April 1654, 'Will[i]am Phillips of Taunton' included bequests to 'the children of James Walker my son-in-law,' to 'my daughter-in-law Elizabeth Walker,' and to 'her little daughter Hester Walker' [PCPR 2:1:1; MD 12:244-45]. This would imply that Elizabeth was stepdaughter of William Phillips, and that the wife of William Phillips had had an earlier husband, who was the father of Elizabeth."
