The will of Richard2 (Appendix "E") gives us a good idea of his relations with his father. During his lifetime his father had given him land situated on the "North west side of ye Mill brook." At the probate of the will the father confirms the gift, a primitive way of transferring land, not suited to the present day. The son of Richard2, named for Thomas1, was evidently a favorite of the latter. It will be seen that he mentions in his will, his father, Thomas1, his wife Elizabeth, his sons, Josiah, Richard, Thomas, his daughters, Mary, Sarah, Hannah, and Abigail. Children not mentioned in the will died in infancy, or before the date of the probate of will, Jan. 29, l674-5. He died Dec. 20, 1674. His widow m. Jan. 15, 1675-6, (his third wife,) Caleb Hobart3, b. in England, son of Thomas2 of Hingham, who was son of Edmund Hobart1, the original emigrant. The issue of this marriage was Benjamin Hobart4 b. April 13, 1677. Caleb Hobart d. Sept. 4, 1711, aet. 89. She d. Aug. 9, 1704, aet. 71. She was therefore b. 1633, and was probably about 21 years of age at time of first marriage.
