Elizabeth Swallow was born on 26th December 1799 at Wheathampstead in Hertfordshire, daughter of Sarah Swallow, formerly Hopkins, and her husband William Swallow, a labourer. The baptisms of some of Eliza's younger siblings record that the family lived at Hollybush, a row of cottages near the hamlet of Mackerye End to the west of Wheathampstead.

Elizabeth died in 1816, aged just 16. She was buried at Wheathampstead on 3rd February 1816, and described as having lived at Hollybush.
