ENIX.
Elizabeth Jane Rowles, daughter of Oliver P. and Louisa Rowles, was born in Monroe county, Iowa, July 17, 1847 and departed this life at her home in Albia, at 2:00 a.m. Friday, February 10, 1922, following a stroke of apoplexy which occurred about 2:30 p.m. the preceding day.
On December 20, 1864, she was united in marriage to Pleasant E. Enix, their marriage taking place in Putnam county, Mo. With the exception of a fourteen year residence in Decatur county, Iowa, and three years in Wyoming, Mr. and Mrs. Enix have been residents of this county and for a number of years have resided in Albia.
Five children were born to them, one of whom, Mrs. Jennie Hilton, passed away June 26, 1889. Those surviving are Mrs. Amos Smith, Albia, Ia., Mrs. James Nixon, Lovilia, Ia., Walter B. Enix, Albia, Ia., and Mrs. Will Wright, Cheynenne, Wyo.
Two brothers and one sister also survive her. They are W. A. Rowles, Albia, Iowa, Harlan Rowles, Slater, Wyo., and Mrs. John Pierson, Albia, Iowa.
About nine years while at Slater, Wyo., she met with an accident that resulted in the loss of a limb, necessitating the use of a crutch, and though disabled, she continued her duties in the home and when, when possible, to meet with other worshippers in the house of the Lord.
Mrs. Enix has been a life-long christian and a member of the Methodist church from childhood, when during revival services held at the school house near the home of her parents she responded to the call of Christ, confessed her faith and united with the church.
Funeral services were held at the M. E. church Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. A. Longnecker and Rev. L. Schaeffer of Walnut City, Iowa, a former pastor. A quartet composed of C. V. Smith, Homer Richey, Mrs. Minnie Davis and Miss Henrietta Young san appropriate songs. Mrs. Nels Peterson assisted at the piano. Burial was in Oak View Cemetery.
