Elizabeth Pye's origins have yet to be established. She claimed to have been born at Crewkerne in Somerset in about 1776. Her first confirmed sighting is on 22nd May 1823 when she was married at Winsham to a widower named Francis Forsey. She marked the register rather than signing it. Francis had at least five children from his first marriage, the eldest of whom was about thirty years old when Elizabeth and Francis married.

Elizabeth and Francis went on to have one son together: Samuel, baptised at Winsham in 1824. Francis has yet to be traced after Samuel's baptism. Elizabeth appears (as Betty, suggesting that is how she was known) in the 1841 census living with her son at Back Street in Winsham. The 1851 census finds Betty visiting a family at Broadway. She was described as a widow, suggesting that Francis had died. She was also recorded as having formerly been a agricultural labourer.

Betty died on 10th June 1857 at Winsham.

The informant Fanny was probably Elizabeth's stepson Francis's wife, who appears to have been the only Fanny Forsey in Winsham in either the 1851 or 1861 censuses.
