    Son of Revolutionary War officer Lt. Col. George Vallandingham and his wife, Elizabeth Noble, Clement graduated from Canonsburg Academy in Canonsburg, PA. Originally established by a Presbyterian Minister who was a graduate of what later became Princeton University, the Academy developed into today's Washington & Jefferson College.

    Seeking employment, Clement ventured to Lisbon, Ohio where married Rebecca Laird in May, 1807. On the 24th of the following month he was ordained and installed as pastor of Lisbon's Presbyterian church, a position he fulfilled until his death.
    Clement and Rebecca had the following children:
