"Mrs. Elizabeth Bird was born in Greenbrier county, West Virginia, on May 11, 1823 and died at the home of her son, C. L. Bird in Yates City at 6:35 p.m., Tuesday, September 11, 1906, aged 82 years, 3 months and 17 days. The funeral services were held from the family residence last Thursday. Rev. Clatworthy, a resident minister conducting the services and the interment was in the Yates City cemetery. Those present from out of town were Mr. an Mrs. Sweeney, of Galesburg, C. W. Bird, of Minnter, and A. C. and Mrs. McLaughlin of Jacksonville." This column also noted at another location: "On account of the funeral services of Mrs. Bird Thursday afternoon there was no school in the grammar room." Her nephew, Charles W. Bird, was a teacher, according to the 1900 census.
