Elizabeth Harris was born on 17th July 1810 and baptised five days later at Lathbury in Buckinghamshire, daughter of Joseph and Ann Harris.

On 2nd June 1834, aged 23, Elizabeth married John Goodman at Willen, about three miles south of Lathbury. He was eleven years her senior and a widower, with three children from his first marriage to whom Elizabeth became stepmother.

Elizabeth and John went on to have another twelve children together at Willen between 1834 and 1857, although two of the children died in 1850, aged four and two, whilst their eldest daughter died in 1853 aged nineteen, and another daughter died in 1857 aged fourteen. By the time Elizabeth's youngest child was born she was 47 years old and John was 58.

Each census from 1841 to 1871 finds Elizabeth, John and some of their children living in Willen. John worked as an agricultural labourer.

John died on 8th September 1880, aged 81. Elizabeth survived him by just under eight years. She appears in the 1881 census living with two of her children in Willen. Elizabeth died at the age of 77, being buried at Willen on 9th June 1888.
