↑Allred, p. 93, gives the birth date as 7 Mar 1768. The basis for such a precise date is unknown. Even with this, there is no hint as to her origins, and they have not been discerned by normal searching. There are no family registers of any Gay family in Orange, and given the date of her birth, it seems very possible she moved there after birth.
