Facts and Events
Elizabeth Emley's origins have yet to be established. One possibility is that she was the Elizabeth Emley baptised on 31st December 1769 at Luton, but proof of this has yet to found. Elizabeth's first confirmed sighting is on 11th October 1790 when she married an agricultural labourer named William Winters at Caddington in Bedfordshire. Their first child, Harriet, was baptised just over three months later at Nettleden, which is where William was from. They then returned to Caddington, having a daughter Martha baptised there in 1793, followed by three sons: John in 1795, Thomas in 1798 and Joseph in 1801. Elizabeth died in 1803, being buried at Caddington on 30th November. William was left with the children who ranged in age from twelve down to just two years old. He outlived Elizabeth by nearly 40 years and remarried seven years after her death. References
